Hetta–Pallas Hiking Trek with Wilderness Hut Accommodation, 4 days- 11-14 September 2026

Experience Finland's oldest hiking route in the colours of early autumn
Join us in the magnificent fell landscapes of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park on Finland's oldest hiking route! The guide supports the group, shows the way, and plans the rest stops. We also do short, easy, and relaxing exercises to ease the strain on legs and shoulders.
Route and Terrain
The roughly 50 km route winds through gorges and over fells through memorable Lapland scenery. Along the way you'll pass streams, forests, and stunning fell views. The trek is suitable for beginners, but be prepared for both ascents and descents. The route follows trails, duckboards, and open terrain.
Accommodation and Gear
We spend three nights in bookable wilderness huts equipped with mattresses, pillows, and blankets — a lightweight sleeping bag or sheet liner is sufficient. We pack as lightly as possible, so a smaller backpack is adequate for this trek. At Hannukuru, halfway through the trek, we have access to a sauna by the lake to wash off the sweat and warm up tired muscles.
Outdoor Skills Course — Learn for Your Own Trips
The trek also functions as an outdoor skills course to prepare you for future hiking — you'll gain knowledge both in the preparation phase and during the trip itself. Before the trek, you can join a webinar covering gear, packing, and practical tips.

3. What Gear Do You Need?
- Good hiking boots and weather-appropriate clothing are essential.
- Everything from spare clothes to food is carried in a small or medium backpack. Food is freeze-dried trail meals to save weight. With careful packing you can manage with a small, light pack — even 33 litres.
- Meals consist of trail food portions: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
- Water bottles can be refilled from streams and springs along the route.
- The booking cabins provide blankets and pillows; you will need a lightweight sleeping bag or liner sheets.
You will receive a detailed gear list and instructions well in advance of the trek.
4. How Demanding is the Trek?
Metsähallitus (Finland's national parks authority) classifies the route as demanding, and many wilderness guides consider it moderately difficult. The challenge comes from the multi-day duration, the terrain, the ascents along the route, and the fact that all gear is carried in a backpack.
For a moderately fit hiker, the Hetta–Pallas route is not usually excessively strenuous, even though you'll certainly feel it in your body.
Participants are expected to have a reasonable level of basic fitness.
